"My paintings are landscape/nature based, often including figures, architectural elements or other signs of human encounter with places in nature. They arise from sites that I have experienced and that resonate for me. These sites compel me to examine carefully in order to understand the attraction, the sense of tension and of life unresolved and unfolding."

Moments Between Destinations"Each individual interprets the world and creates their own reality. In this, everyone is an artist. Whether I am painting landscape, figurative or abstract, capturing the essence of the emotion of a space or time has been my fascination. During the last two years, I have been inspired by observing the time between specific destinations and events. The moments between destinations feel like real time in an organic sense, outside the confines of regular time. It is these moments of observation that I look to capture - as if they existed only for the moment they were painted."

COMPLEMENTARY THEMES A Journey from Metropolis to Mountain Hamlet
In his sixth solo show at Roberts Gallery, Joseph Peller's recent work embraces the variegated moods of two complementary themes. It is a visual journey from the fleeting overlooked episodes of a busy metropolis to the bucolic backwaters of forgotten railway communities. Whether he is transfixed by a wedding reception at an upscale urban bistro or a train crew change in the quiet solitude of a bypassed rail yard, Peller vividly reveals these contrasting rituals though his use of light and color.

"Bruce's work is real." -- Paul Duval"One of Canada's foremost contemporary landscape painters ... Bruce's paintings honour tradition but have branched out into his own distinctive style. His work has a great amount of depth and complexity, and I have much admiration for it." -- John Hartman
