About the Artist
Albert Robinson
(1881-1956)
Associated with the Beaver Hall Group of Montreal, Robinson was also one of three artists invited to exhibit in the first Group of Seven exhibition of 1920, the others being Hewton and Pilot. First exhibiting in 1906 in Hamilton, and later taking painting trips to Europe with A.Y. Jackson just before World War 1, Robinson was based in Montreal for most of his career until health conditions brought on by a heart attack and arthritis forced a sudden retirement from painting in 1933. Often called a “painter’s painter”, his most distinctive works feature simplified forms in a gentle palette of pink and lavender.
