Alan C. Collier Spotlight
Alan Collier would take an annual sketch trip to a different region of Canada every summer. He and his wife Ruth would load up their truck and camper trailer for a 2 – 3 month road trip. In 1976 Collier travelled east and sketched and painted in Newfoundland. He would typically paint his 12″ x 16″ oil on boards on the spot such as “Across Trinity Harbour” (July 1976).
When he returned from his trips he would plan his next exhibition and decide what small panels would translate to canvases for that show. “The Sea’s Edge” was one of those canvases and it was used as the invitation piece for the March 1977 exhibition. The scan of that card is below with our standard black and white reproduction of that beautiful canvas.
