Bruce Steinhoff: 30 YEARS

Our upcoming exhibition of new work by Bruce Steinhoff marks 30 years of Steinhoff exhibitions at Roberts Gallery. To commemorate this important occasion, here are a few thoughts from Steinhoff on what he paints and why:

“My inspiration for painting comes from the deepening connection I have with the places I live in or visit regularly. I have taken several long cycling trips through Europe, but these are great adventures, not painting trips. Year after year I am drawn to Georgian Bay’s lively waters, dramatic weather, and rugged islands. The challenges it presents are irresistible. I particularly love Fairwood and Franklin Islands as well as Moon Bay. While my central subject is Georgian Bay, I often paint the rolling farmlands of Bruce County and my native Norfolk County, areas I have been exploring since childhood.”
