Happy 90th Birthday to Jennie Wildridge

As my mother, Jennie Wildridge, approaches her 90th birthday, it makes me think of the changes in our business that she has been apart of. She married my father, Jack, in 1949 shortly after our family acquired the gallery from the Roberts family. The business at that time was a gallery of British and European painting and some Canadian art with the frame shop being a significant part of the bottom line. In the 1950’s the gallery changed its focus to a Canadian artists only space with my parents becoming more familiar with the abundance of talented artists in the Toronto art scene. Her role also changed over the years as she raised my brother and I during the 1950’s and ’60’s. She went between part time, full time and travel companion with my father as they visited artists in Canada and abroad. She was always in charge of the entertainment as our home was regularly hosting dinner parties for artists and clients of the gallery. She has studied and observed the changes, trends and ups and downs of the art market over the past 65 years. Her knowledge of and opinion on an artists work have always been appreciated and respected. Happy birthday, Mom. Thanks for all your guidance and support.
