Leon Bellefleur
“Mystery works and is everywhere in life, around us and even in us — especially in art, I feel.”
Léon Bellefleur’s contribution to art in Canada was central, and his career included a National Gallery retrospective in 1968, many international exhibitions, and solo shows at Roberts Gallery in 1966, 1968, and 1971. An artist from childhood, he would go on to become a member of the influential abstract painting group Prisme d’Yeux, which alongside Les Automatistes would change painting in Canada forever. A selection of work from throughout his career is currently on display in our lower gallery. View images of them here and read more about his life and work here.
