My Time in Paris by John Lennard
This past Spring, Peggy and I spent two months in Europe. I spent the first two weeks touring England and Ireland playing music, then left to teach art in Horta de Sant Joan, Spain – Picasso’s favourite town.
Music has been and still is a great part of my life. It has allowed me the luxury of seeing the great art all over Europe between sound checks and shows, and travelling to inspirational places to explore more art and my own artistic expression.
There are times in an artist’s life when everything stands still, and the only focus is on the present moment – a moment to embrace, paint and draw. This happened for me this year in the final week of our European stay in an amazing apartment in the center of Paris. This apartment was an endless source of inspiration from every window.
I returned to Canada with six sketchbooks full of drawings from this time in Europe. Up in Georgian Bay, I gave myself the time to recreate this focus and work up the drawings into oil sketches and a few larger paintings. Please join the Roberts Gallery and me in the celebration of this time in Europe and a special week in Paris.
