Professional artist and museologist, Ariane Dubois lives in the ancestral land of a rural corner of the metropolitan region of Montreal. Her passion for the arts arose in childhood and it is with conviction, passion, and determination that she chooses the professional path from the age of 13, multiplying her interests and knowledge in drawing, painting and history of art. Bachelor in Visual Arts from Concordia University where she studied painting with Jean McEwen, John Fox and Tom Hopkins, she also completed a certificate in art history and a master’s degree in museology at the University of Montreal. As a result, Ariane Dubois leads a career as both a visual artist and a museologist.
As a painter, Ariane Dubois has developed a personal approach over the past thirty five years that stems from her relationship with nature and natural imagery. She boasts well over a hundred exhibitions in renowned art centres, galleries and museums. Recipient of grants from the Ministry of Culture of Quebec and the Council of Arts and Letters, she receives recognition from her peers. A founding member of the Galerie Verticale de Laval, she also sat on the board of directors of the Société des Arts Visuels de Laval and of the Galerie Praxis de Sainte-Thérèse as president. In addition, she joins as a regional expert in visual arts the Committee for the Integration of Arts in Architecture (1%) on behalf of the Ministry of Culture of Quebec.
Dubois’s paintings can be found in several prominent public, private, and corporate collections in Canada and USA including those of Loto-Québec, Promutuelle l’Abitibienne, Caisses Desjardins, Royal Bank of Canada, Brookfield properties and Abitibi Consol.
Her passion for art led the artist on a few parallel paths. As a museologist, Ariane Dubois work on severals spheres of art diffusion. She was the gallery director of the Salle Alfred-Pellan in Laval for fifteen years, independent curator for art center and museums, art educator and author. She has organized several exhibitions of established and historical artists such as Jean McEwen, Betty Goodwin, Kittie Bruneau and Jacques Payette for which she also wrote the exhibition catalogues.
