“In this series I explore the power of the feminine by uniting still life and portraiture. I compose each arrangement according to my sense of beauty, using the objects that surround me, attending to the ever-changing sunlight and shadows that play over it until I capture the perfect moment. Drawn from centuries of art history, the women I bring into the compositions share my personal space and enter conversation with my daily life. The slow process of painting gives me the opportunity to sit with each portrait, to think about the woman and her world, and about the women in my own life who shaped me. Through these paintings, I portray the feminine not as fragile, but as a gentle, enduring force, and the works become intimate spaces where presence and memory coexist.”
