About the Artist
William McElcheran was born in 1927, in Hamilton, Ontario. In 1948, he was accepted to the Ontario College of Art, where he studied carpentry and design. After graduating, he worked for the architectural firm Bruce, Brown and Brisley.
McElcheran began exhibiting with Roberts Gallery in 1969, holding his first solo exhibition there in 1971. This relationship continued into the late 1970s.
He is best known for his “Businessman” series, as well as sculptures and works depicting people in everyday modern life.
McElcheran’s works can be found in private, public and corporate collections in Canada, Europe and Japan.
